The International Order of the Rainbow for Girls, is affiliated only with the Masonic Lodges, Order of the Eastern Star Chapters, and Order of the Amaranth Courts. Many groups and organizations use the name of Rainbow in their title or organizational name. We are NOT associated with any group except the three listed above. The International Order of the Rainbow for Girls was founded in McAlester, Oklahoma in 1922 by the Reverend W. Mark Sexson, a Christian minister, Past Grand Master, Free & Accepted Masons, and Past Grand Patron, Order of the Eastern Star in Oklahoma. On April 6, 1922 the first Rainbow Assembly was instituted in McAlester Oklahoma. Rev. W. Mark Sexson, the founder of our order witnessed a class of 171 girls be initiated that day. This important event caught the attention of a few influential Masonic and Eastern Star members in Oregon and the institution of Martha Washington Assembly #1 was the beginning of Rainbow in Oregon. The Order has an active membership of 275,000 girls worldwide and more than one million majority members. Girls from Aruba, Australia, Bolivia, Brazil, Canada, Germany, Italy, Japan, the Philippines and throughout the Unities States, enjoy the privileges of the Order. |
