There’s an old saying that states, “it’s not whether you win or lose, it’s how you play the game.” This is especially true for children in sports, where injuries can overshadow the joy of the game. In Oregon, many underfunded communities lack proper medical equipment, putting young athletes at risk. Oregon Rainbow is raising funds for the Portland Shriners Hospital for Children to provide these communities with sports medicine kits, ensuring the health and safety of our young athletes. It’s a race, but not just for glory – it’s a race for the health and safety of our young athletes.

In any sport, injuries are a part of the game. A sprained ankle, a scraped knee, or even a broken bone can occur at any time during practice or competition. This is where a sports medicine kit comes into play. Having immediate access to a well-stocked kit means that initial treatment can be given at the earliest, decreasing the recovery time and lowering the risk of further complications.

Being able to treat injuries on-site is especially vital in environments where immediate hospital care may not be readily available. A sports medicine kit filled with bandages, splints, ice packs and other first aid essentials can make all the difference in those crucial moments after an injury.

Furthermore, these kits aren’t just for treating injuries – they also serve as a preventive measure. Tapes and braces found in these kits can support weak or vulnerable areas, reducing the risk of injury during play. Finally, having a sports medicine kit on hand shows our young athletes that their safety is a priority, fostering a safer and more responsible sporting culture.
